Walk in Lisbon

Hi all,

Last Friday, when we arrived in Lisbon, we made a short walk in the center. We started at Rossio, where there is "Nicola", a famous "pasteleria", which we recommend for a breakfast. Then we walked in the main street of Baixa (Rua Augusta) towards the "Tejo" river.

At the big square in front of the Tejo (Praça do Comércio), you can take the old trams, for example the 28 which makes the tour of Lisbon. Tram 28 makes the lisbon tour in about 1 hour. The tram passes by the Castelo São Jorge, where you have magnificent views over Lisbon.

Then we went up to Chiado, the fashion district with multiple stores. Check out also the statue of the famous Portugese writer Fernando Pessoa in the terrace of "Brasileira", a must in Lisbon's old cafés.

On the way to Bairro Alto, we passed by the "Cervejaria Trindade" (rua nova de trindade 20), a typical Portugese "cervejaria" or "beerhall" which we recommend for traditional Portugese food. Lots of choice, including Peixe (Fish) and Carne (meat) as well as seafood. Then we arrived in Bairro Alto, where you can find multiple bars and fado restaurants from the "old Lisbon". This is the area where students go out until the very, very late hours.

Then, we took the steep tram (Elevador da Glória) back to Restauradores in Baixa. In Baixa we passed by the old train station and back to Rossio. A few steps further we still walked through Rua do Ouro, passing by the famous elevator build by Gustaff Eiffel (Elevador de Santa Justa) which takes you to Largo do Carmo, the historical square from the carnation revolution where the portuguese dictatorship gave way to the democracy.
